Department Overview

Power Generation operates and maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for our customers. Our nearly 1000 coworkers are dedicated to delivering safe, reliable and cost-effective generation to California in an environmentally responsible manner. Our hydro facilities include 62 conventional hydro powerhouses, a pumped-storage facility, 98 reservoirs, 168 dams and more than 200 miles of canals and flumes, among other water conveyances. Natural gas-fired plants in operation are Humboldt Bay Generating Station in Eureka; Colusa Generating Station in Colusa County and Gateway Generating Station in Antioch. Several utility-scale solar generation plants also are operated and maintained, as well as PG&E’s successful entry into battery energy storage, our Elkhorn Battery facility at Moss Landing in Monterey County.

Position Summary

The Power Generation Capital Project Management Organization (CPMO) Project Management leadership position oversees a contract team of Project Managers, Project Control Analysts and Engineers supporting Power Generation Projects. The CPMO work group primarily consists of contractors and may include regular employees and is responsible for managing Power Generation capital construction and/or maintenance projects throughout service territory. The incumbent is typically assigned a portfolio of projects across the Power Generation territory with an annual project portfolio budget. The leaders promote a safety culture and ensure staff adhere to all company and regulatory safety practices and policies.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum: $​159,000

Bay Area Maximum: $​271,000

California Minimum: $​151,000

California Maximum: $​257,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Typically assigned to projects within a major functional area of Power GenerationElectric Operations. 
  • Leads a team of primarily Project Managers and Project Control Analysts in the successful execution of electric maintenance, construction, capacity & reliability capital projects. Manages cost, safety, quality, schedule, scope & client/customer satisfaction. 
  • Seeks process improvement opportunities to reduce duplication of effort, improve work quality. 
  • Works with peers and leaders across Power Generation Electric Operations to promote teamwork, streamline processes and improve efficiency. Effectively manages both the capital project portfolio for assigned functional area and develops and implements industry-leading project control policies, practices and procedures to ensure high-level quality and transparency in communications. Leads development of tools and processes to continuously improve management and financial performance. 
  • Regularly presents to leaders & stakeholders on project scope, schedule, cost and risk management information. Develops and delivers recommendations to improve processes, schedules and/or cost performance of projects. 
  • Continuously strives to move the department toward a more mature project management model to improve effectiveness. 
  • May participate as a member of the Incident Command structure during times of significant events, such as storms, earthquakes, etc. 
  • Manages staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and coaching, and rewards and recognition.
  • May manage both union and non-union employees. Direct reports may include Supervisors, Project Managers, Project Management Analysts, Project Control Analysts, Project Management Coordinators or Assistants, Contractors, Engineers.
  • Oversee and ensures CPMO governance process are followed and provides oversight of the CPMO activities, financial performance, and project delivery.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification through the Project Management Institute.
  • 10+ years of total related experience in project management experience with a minimum of 5+ years project management of electric utility projects 
  • 4+ years supervisory experience in a technical field

Desired:

  • Master of Science in Engineering or other technical discipline or Masters in Business Administration
  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills. Ability to build effective teams. 
  • Experience in developing project governance, oversight of a contract organization that augments in-house capabilities, or other applicable pertinent experience
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written 
  • Customer service orientation. 
  • Collaboration, interpersonal skills. 
  • Understanding of Utility financial, budget and contracting policies and procedures 
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven record of leading by example to accomplish business results 
  • Financial and business acumen. 
  • Good analytical and strategic decision-making ability. 
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) Union Contract. 
  • Knowledge and experience in process improvement to increase business effectiveness. 
  • Knowledge of project management vendor contracts. 
  • Skilled in negotiating and managing contracts for engineering, procurement and construction services
