Finance’s vision is to build and sustain leading finance capabilities to support PG&E’s vision.
PG&E's Payroll department is responsible for producing timely and accurate paychecks for 28,000 active employees and 30,000 pensioners. The Payroll department complies with all employment tax reporting and payment requirements. The department works closely with business partners to respond promptly and professionally to inquiries regarding payments and tax reporting.
Position Summary
The Senior Payroll Analyst will focus on advanced reporting, data mining, and analysis to support payroll processing and compliance while driving process improvement across the functional area.
Additionally, you should be a quick learner, self-starter, flexible, organized, thorough, comfortable with technology, and able to work in a fast paced, time and data sensitive work environment. The role will require diligent attention to detail and quality and continuous focus under often distracting work conditions and tight deadlines. You should demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with many levels of staff within the Company. Lastly, the Senior Analyst must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, work a flexible schedule, and maintain good attendance.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland General Office based on business needs.
PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
The hourly rate for this position ranges from $44.71 to $66.83.
Job Responsibilities
This position is intended to be multi-dimensional. Coworkers may be assigned work in one or more of the following areas:
- Perform advanced reporting and data mining to support payroll operations, audits, and compliance needs.
- Analyze payroll data for trends to identify and implement process improvements.
- Develop, maintain, and distribute payroll metrics and dashboards using Power BI and other reporting tools.
- Perform mass uploads and master data changes as needed.
- Support testing and implementation of payroll system updates and enhancements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including HR, Finance, and IT to address payroll-related inquiries and system enhancements.
- Utilize JIRA for ticket management, tracking issues, and ensuring timely resolution of payroll cases.
- Document processes, prepare training materials, and assist with internal controls and audit activities.
- Actively communicate issues to management
- Serve as a payroll resource to the department
- Actively demonstrate and follow all safety rules to ensure employee and public safety
- Provide directions and coaching to other team members
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- 5 years of recent relevant work experience- in payroll, data analysis or similar.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables and advanced formulas
Desired:
- Seven years of payroll experience
- Demonstrated, proficient knowledge of MS365 applications- Excel, Powerpoint, etc
- Experience with Microsoft Power platforms like Power BI
- Knowledge of JIRA for workflow and ticket management.
- Demonstrated functional knowledge of SAP.
- Previous large company (5000+) experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas verbally and in writing so others will understand.
- Excellent research and resolution skills
- Ability to present analysis and findings in a cohesive, understandable, and actionable format to department management
- Ability to work with many levels of staff within the company in a matrixed environment
- Self-starter, capable of working both independently and as part of a team
